Gregory Stefan Johnson, 72, of Staten Island, NY, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2024. Gregory was born on February 5, 1952, in Harlem, NY, to parents George and Gloria Johnson.

Known for his kind heart and generous spirit, Gregory lived a life filled with love, and laughter, and worked hard to bring joy to anyone who crossed his path. A graduate of City College, he went on to build a fulfilling career as a Journalist, Editor and Educator, where he was admired and recognized for his dedication and wisdom. Gregory’s willingness to help, robust laugh and his habit of taking a sincere interest in all those around him made him a beloved figure to all who knew him. He was a passionate photographer and Model railroader. He was always ready with a warm smile, a helping hand, and a story to share.

Whether you knew him as Shorty G, Professor G, Uncle Greg, or “the original fun machine from back in the day when it cost a nickel”, if he crossed your path he left you with an indelible image of genuine love and more than likely a big smile.

Gregory’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved son, Michael (Mikey Poo) and nephew David (Day Day Poo). He also leaves behind his siblings Deneicia George (her husband Stanley George), Deborah Jackson, Doreen Johnson and Deidre Johnson, Cousin Kyle Best and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews as well as lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Gloria Johnson, and his brother David L. Johnson.

Friends and family are invited to honor Gregory’s life at a service on Saturday, December 21st from 3-6pm in Las Rosas Bannworth Funeral Home at 1055 East Jersey Street, Elizabeth NJ 07201.
